The employees at a leaflet distribution company in North West England are wondering if they are seeing double
LDS Tourism Services Ltd. is a successful business specialising in the distribution and display of promotional print throughout North West Britain. They have been in the business for over sixteen years and are very well known in the local tourism and leisure industry.
Imagine their surprise when, earlier today, they spotted a blog entry entitled Leaflet Delivery in Merseyside on the News in Wigan website - posted by a leaflet distribution company calling itself LDS Limited.
According to their blurb, LDS Limited has “specialist experience amassed over years in the leaflet… industry.” It also claims, “Unlike most other leaflet distributors, LDS focus primarily on the North West, in particular Lancashire and Merseyside”!
Employees at LDS Tourism Services Ltd. followed a link to LDS Limited’s website where they discovered that “Leaflet Distribution Services (LDS) specializes in the distribution of advertising material across the UK”. Seemingly, they have “extensive experience in the leaflet distribution sector”, although, unlike LDS Tourism Services Ltd, they would appear to focus mainly on door-to-door and direct mail.
Confused? You’re not alone.
A little more probing revealed that LDS Limited was registered in 2008 by a London-based outfit called SF Worldwide Ltd.
“One wonders how often businesses spring up, as if from nowhere, offering similar services and with almost identical names to those of well established firms?” says LDS Tourism’s Manager, Jennifer Prime. “Whilst it’s heartening to know that one's name is obviously known and trusted throughout the region, surely this practice can’t be ethical?”
Needless to say, LDS Limited will be hearing from LDS Tourism Services Limited’s legal people in due course.
